Position Overview The Math Teacher at Eastpointe High School is responsible for helping students build foundational math skills, confidence, and problem-solving ability while re-engaging them in their path toward graduation. This role is ideal for an educator who understands that many students have experienced gaps in math learning and require both academic support and relational investment to succeed. Eastpointe operates within an alternative high school model, where flexibility, consistency, and relationships drive outcomes. The Math Teacher will deliver standards-aligned instruction in a blended learning environment while supporting students at varying levels, from foundational math skills to advanced coursework. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Learning Deliver engaging, standards-aligned math instruction (aligned to Arizona state standards) Support students in both direct instruction and blended/computer based learning environments (e.g., Edgenuity) Teach a range of math courses (e.g., Pre-Algebra, Algebra I/II, Geometry) based on student needs Break down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps for students with learning gaps Differentiate instruction to support students who are credit-deficient or significantly behind grade level Provide targeted intervention and re-teaching to ensure mastery and course completion Facilitate small group instruction and one-on-one support as needed Student Engagement & Support Build strong, consistent relationships with students to increase engagement and persistence Support students during the first 90 days of enrollment, a critical period for retention Help students overcome math anxiety and build confidence through consistent support Maintain a structured, supportive classroom environment focused on growth and accountability Mentorship & Student Development Serve as a mentor for a small caseload of students Meet regularly with assigned students to set goals, monitor academic progress, and provide guidance Consistently guide students through the student journal, facilitating reflection, accountability, and life-skill development Ensure journal engagement is meaningful and drives real conversations and behavior change Help students develop and stay aligned to an individualized graduation plan Act as a consistent, trusted adult supporting students through academic and personal challenges Collaborate with staff to ensure consistency and quality in mentorship and journal implementation Collaboration & Teamwork Partner with teachers, mentors, registrars, and leadership to support each student’s individualized learning plan and credit recovery pathway Participate in team meetings focused on student progress, interventions, and retention strategies Communicate regularly with staff regarding student performance, attendance, and engagement Assessment & Accountability Track and document student progress, grades, and course completion Use data to identify learning gaps and adjust instruction accordingly Maintain accurate records in compliance with school, district, and state requirements Culture & Mission Alignment Model and reinforce Eastpointe’s commitment to relationships, accountability, and results Embrace and execute the belief that mentorship and personal development are as important as academics Contribute to a culture that is hungry, humble, adaptable, and people-smart Support initiatives that improve student retention, engagement, and graduation outcomes Qualifications Required Valid Teaching Certificate (Secondary Math or appropriate certification) Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or related field Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills Ability to work effectively with at-risk and non-traditional student populations Preferred Experience in dropout recovery, alternative education, or credit recovery models Experience with blended learning platforms (e.g., Edgenuity) Experience supporting students with significant math gaps Experience in mentoring, coaching, or advisory roles Key Competencies Relationship-Driven: Builds trust and connects with students who may struggle with math and school overall Adaptable: Thrives in a flexible, non-traditional learning environment Results-Oriented: Focused on credit completion, skill mastery, and graduation outcomes Mentor-Minded: Sees mentorship as a core responsibility, not an add-on Clear Communicator: Explains complex math concepts in simple, understandable ways Compensation details: 40000-60000 Yearly Salary PIef7eeadd049f-25448-40135673
