ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Provides English-Navajo medical and general interpretation for PHNs to
individual clients, family members, groups in homes, outreach clinics and
other community settings about health care practices, health instructions,
and health teaching/education.
* Acts as a resource for health care providers on the Navajo tradition/belief
system, i.e., health concepts, cultural beliefs, customs and health
practices.
* Operates company vehicles for home visits, to outreach clinics, to schools,
and to other community settings in order to carry out program
responsibilities.
* Operates a variety of vehicles including four (4) wheel drive vehicles, 1/2
ton pick-up trucks, vans, sedans, and pulling a cargo trailer.
* Responsible for the basic maintenance of assigned program vehicles and the
loading and unloading of health supplies and equipment used by the staff.
- Maintains inventory for PHN equipment and supplies.
- Maintains vehicle records and manages vehicles assigned to Public Health
Nursing Department.
* Immediately reports any vehicle mechanical or maintenance problems, safety
concerns, or customer service issues to the Director of Public Health
Nursing, as well as to the Fleet Manager when necessary. Communicates with
Fleet Management Department to ensure compliance with Federal Motor Carrier
Safety Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation and Arizona
Department of Transportation.
- Follows all safety policies and procedures.
- Participates in required safety trainings and meetings.
- Coordinates with Environmental Services and Fleet Services to ensure vehicles
are cleaned regularly.
* Performs regular inspections of all program vehicles on a weekly basis to
check for any damage or maintenance issues
* Makes independent, selected home visits to individual clients, families, or
other community groups under the direction of DPHN or PHN.
* Obtains subjective data, i.e., review of the medical history, family status,
client's view of his/her illness.
* Obtains objective data by taking and recording vital signs, weights/heights,
by observing normal or abnormalities in the client's appearance and/or
behavior.
* Makes an assessment of the client's condition by interpreting signs and
symptoms specific to visit.
* Instructs clients regarding requirements of care in terms of immediate care
(short-term) or on a long- term basis. Makes appropriate referrals and
provides health teaching under the direction of DPHN or PHN.
* Delivers supplies, equipment, appointments, obtains consents and specimens
under special conditions and under the direction of the PHN/DPHN, school
Health. Assists with the school health activities i.e., screening procedures
such as vision, hearing, heights, weights, and simple laboratory work under
the direction of the PHN and assists in records management.
* Assists in satellite or outreach clinics. Participates in all Healthy Living
and Outreach Division community outreach events such as: community health
fairs and preventive health clinics, i.e., immunization clinics; Health
Promotion/Disease Prevention (HP/DP) functions (i.e. Just Move It, or Walking
for a Healthier Nation walks).
* Takes initiative to solve problems, complete tasks, and suggest program
improvements.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
MANDATORY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Two (2) years of direct work experience.
Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalency (HSE).
Basic Life Support/First Aid Certification within three months of employment.

FDIHB and its facilities are located within the Navajo Nation and, in accordance
with Navajo Nation law, has implemented a Navajo/Indian Preference in Employment
