Parkland Medical Center is seeking a motivated Nurse Extern Behavioral Health Full Time to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team dedicated to delivering safe, compassionate, and evidence-based psychiatric and behavioral health care. In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of registered nurses and the interdisciplinary treatment team to support adult and adolescent patients experiencing a range of behavioral health conditions, including mood disorders, anxiety, psychosis, and co-occurring substance use disorders. You will assist with monitoring vital signs, collecting specimens, documenting patient observations, reinforcing treatment plans, and supporting daily living activities while maintaining a therapeutic, recovery-focused environment. The Nurse Extern will actively participate in treatment team discussions, help implement individualized care plans, and contribute to group and milieu-based interventions by promoting safety, structure, and positive coping strategies. You will be responsible for following unit and hospital policies, adhering to all regulatory and patient safety standards, and promptly reporting changes in patient status or concerning behaviors to the RN and provider team. This position provides a valuable opportunity to build strong clinical skills in psychiatric and behavioral health nursing, including crisis intervention support, de-escalation techniques, therapeutic communication, trauma-informed care principles, and collaboration with families and community resources.
