Position:Kindergarten Assistant / Floating Support Staff

Reports To: Campus Administration and Classroom Teacher

Classification: Full-Time | Salaried | Exempt

Position Overview:

Sunlight Christian Academy is seeking a nurturing, dependable, and Christ-centered individual to serve as a Kindergarten Assistant / Floating Support Staff member. This position plays a vital role in supporting classroom instruction, supervising students throughout the school day, assisting with daily operations, and helping create a safe, joyful, and engaging learning environment rooted in biblical values.

The ideal candidate demonstrates flexibility, a servants heart, strong teamwork skills, and a genuine love for children. This individual must be willing to assist wherever needed throughout the campus, including supporting classroom teachers, supervising students, transporting students to specials and lunch, covering assigned duties, and substituting in classrooms when necessary.

Primary Purpose:

Provides a nurturing, Christ-centered environment for kindergarten students while supporting the teacher with administrative tasks and classroom management needs. Transports students to specials and lunch, while also covering a variety of school duties throughout the day, while also subbing in classrooms when needed. Consistently reflects Gods love in every interaction, serving as a positive influence on staff, students, and families for Christ, while fully embodying the Sunlight Way in all areas of responsibility.

Instructional & Classroom Support

  • Assist the lead teacher in maintaining a structured, engaging, and Christ-centered classroom environment
  • Provide small group and one-on-one student support as directed
  • Support classroom management, routines, and transitions throughout the day
  • Step in as a substitute teacher when needed, following lesson plans and maintaining continuity

Student Supervision & Safety

  • Escort students safely to specials, lunch, recess, and other campus locations
  • Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and other assigned duties
  • Ensure a safe, orderly, and positive environment at all times

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Assist with classroom preparation, organization, and material setup
  • Complete basic administrative tasks such as copying, organizing, and preparing resources
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-functioning classroom environment

Relational & School Culture

  • Build positive, respectful relationships with students, staff, and families
  • Communicate in a clear, kind, and professional manner
  • Support school-wide events, initiatives, and team responsibilities as assigned

Spiritual Leadership & Sunlight Way

  • Consistently model Christ-like behavior in all interactions

Qualifications

  • A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to the mission and values of Sunlight Christian Academy
  • A practicing Christian who attends church regularly.
  • Ability to consistently model Christ-like character, professionalism, and a servant-hearted attitude
  • Experience working with children in an educational, childcare, ministry, or related setting preferred
  • Strong classroom management and student supervision skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and families
  • Flexible, dependable, and willing to assist in a variety of roles throughout the school day
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle situations with professionalism and discretion
  • Comfortable leading and supervising students independently when needed
  • Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced school environment
  • Basic technology skills and familiarity with classroom or school-related technology preferred

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associates degree, CDA, paraprofessional certification, or college coursework in Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred
  • Previous experience working with elementary-aged children preferred
  • Must meet all state and school requirements for working in a school environment, including successful completion of background screening and fingerprinting
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire
