Camp Description This day camp is the summer program of LREI, a historic Progressive Education school located in the West Village. Our priority is to offer a safe, creative, engaging place for children to grow in the summertime. We foster a non-competitive, welcoming environment for all children who attend. Children are encouraged to make new friends and to participate in fun activities that interest them and provide opportunities to learn new skills. Art Specialist Requirements in advance of the camp season Planning Weekend: Friday Evening May 29th, all day Saturday May 30th Season Dates Attend all staff Orientation June 22nd-25th, 10am-6pm, June 26th 9am until rooms are set up. Camp Season: June 29th- August 7th, 8:30am-4:30pm. Heads/Specialist Dinner: August 7th Heads/Specialist Brunch: August 8th starting noon. *Candidates must be available for all pre-season and season dates in order to be considered for employment, without exception. Please do not apply unless you are available for all dates listed. Responsibilities Create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children in an age-specific art classes (between 4 and 13 years old). Plan and lead daily visual arts classes and projects inclusive of camper interests (4 one hour classes a day). Support Head Counselors and Homegroups on weekly camp-wide field trips around the city and daily during camper lunch. Supervise and delegate to supporting teachers during classes. Work collaboratively with other counselors. Communicate with administrators on a daily basis; accept feedback and process camp-based challenges and successes. Work to uphold the program’s progressive education and diversity initiatives in every camp activity. Job Qualifications Art Specialists: Minimum fine arts college degree in visual art and/or art in education (masters degree preferred), at least three years experience as lead teacher in an arts-based educational and/or camp program; ability to generate and lead group activities for children between the ages of 4 and 13; ability to work collaboratively with other teachers and communicate effectively. All Art Specialists are required to get current CPR and First Aid certification (provided during orientation week).
