Life & Health Insurance Rates and Forms Examiners

Anticipated Salary Range: $60,000-$75,000

Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience

The State Corporation Commission (SCC) seeks two Life & Health (L&H) Insurance Rates and Forms Examiners who have a passion for public service and an interest in regulating Virginia's insurance industry. Joining the SCC's Bureau of Insurance (BOI), the Health Insurance Rates Examiner reviews individual and small group health (ACA), accident and sickness, Medicare Supplement, and long-term care rate submissions and the Life Insurance and Annuity Forms Examiner reviews life insurance and annuity policy form submissions. Prior to insurance products being marketed to the public, the L&H Rates and Forms Examiners determine the filings' compliance with applicable insurance laws, regulations, and administrative rules through a detailed and thorough review. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Review and analyze insurance rates or policy forms
• Determine compliance with Virginia statutes, administrative letters, and regulations
• Identify deficiencies in the filings and correspond and meet with companies to obtain information, corrections, and amendments
• Maintain clear and accurate records of filings in SERFF and other general office software applications in accordance with section procedures
• Communicate with insurers verbally and in writing about results of a review
• Collaborate with Commission staff, industry personnel, and agencies
• Respond to internal and external inquiries and requests for information
• Stay informed on federal and state rules and regulations and complete continuing education in the insurance industry
• Participate in meetings, conferences, special projects, etc.
• Perform other duties as assigned
